Is Your Water Bill Too High? A Hidden Leak May Be the Reason

Water leaks in commercial buildings are rarely obvious. The potable water main runs underground, through risers and behind walls. A leak can run for months before anyone notices, and by then it has cost thousands in water bills and caused damage that is far harder to fix.

Warning signs of a hidden leak

  • Kahramaa bill jumps with no change in occupancy or use
  • The water meter keeps turning when all taps and equipment are off (check at night)
  • Water tanks refill more often than they used to
  • Low pressure on upper floors or at the far end of the building
  • Damp patches, cracks or settling in car parks, landscaping or around the building
  • Mould or a musty smell in plant rooms, basements or ceiling voids

Do a simple meter test tonight

  1. Make sure no water is being used: close taps, stop irrigation and tank filling.
  2. Read the main water meter and write down the number.
  3. Wait 1 to 2 hours without any water use.
  4. Read the meter again. If the number has moved, water is leaking somewhere.

Why you shouldn't wait

  • Wasted money: a small continuous leak adds up to a large amount on every monthly bill.
  • Structural damage: escaping water washes soil away from under slabs and foundations.
  • Health risk: a leak on a drinking water line can let contaminated groundwater in.
  • Bigger repairs later: a leak found early needs one small hole; a leak found late can mean breaking up a road or slab.

How QATCO finds hidden leaks

We locate the leak without breaking walls, floors or roads. We use acoustic listening equipment, tracer gas, pressure testing by section and pipe route tracing. We mark the exact spot, so the repair needs only a small opening. You get a report with photos and the leak location, useful for insurance and maintenance records.

We work on commercial buildings, towers, malls, hotels, compounds and industrial sites across Qatar. Learn more about our underground leak detection service.
